Do you need a Motivational Speaker or an Inspirational Speaker?

The terms motivational speaker and inspirational speaker are often used interchangeably, however numerous people suggest that there are a number of key differences between the two. Before you hire an inspirational speaker or a motivational to address your organisation you may need to first understand the different methods used by each speaker to determine which approach is best suited to address the needs of your audience.

An inspirational speaker essentially inspires the audience by telling them about their or other peoples real life hardships and how they overcame these obstacles and succeeded over all odds. Inspirational speakers rely on these stories to change the audiences mind set and entice them with the necessary determination and inspiration they may need to overcome barriers within their own lives.

Similarly - a motivational speaker is also able to inspire an audience in a similar manner, however the approach may be different. Motivational speakers generally use far more energy during their motivational speech in order to really captivate the audience's attention. One the audience is engaged in the motivational speech, the speaker is able to give subtle inspirational messages that leave the audience with a "can do" attitude. Motivational speakers essentially give people the necessary boost to get up and do something that will help to make a positive change in their lives or workplace.

A positive change or inspiring message may be necessary in the lives of the audience; however each individual will react to a motivational or inspirational speech in a different manner. Sometimes people need more than a heart touching message delivered by an inspirational speaker to inspire them to make a constructive change. A motivational speaker is often able to equip audiences with tools and guidelines they can use to motivate themselves and others long after the motivational speech is over.

Discuss the outcomes you desire from your audience with the motivational speaker or inspirational speaker you have in mind in order to determine which approach best suits your requirements.
